Bestselling Authors to Speak to Area High School Students
December 12, 2011, Benton Harbor, MI - Students from several high schools throughout the tri-county area will meet bestselling authors and leadership experts Angie Morgan and Courtney Lynch on Tuesday. The students, all enrolled in Michigan Works’ Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Program, and have been selected to participate in a leadership conference at Michigan Works’ Benton Harbor office. The presentation will take place between 11:30 and 12:30.
Morgan and Lynch own LeadStar, a leadership consulting firm, and are the authors of the bestselling book, Leading from the Front: No Excuse Leadership Tactics for Women. They both honed their leaderships skills as officers in the Marine Corps and then experienced a high level of success in the private sector. Realizing that their leadership training from the Marine Corps set them apart, they started LeadStar to share their leadership message with others.Now, their clients include Bank of America, Dell, Morgan Stanley, Wal-Mart and the University of Michigan among many other widely known and highly respected organizations.
Michigan Works executive director Todd Gustafson says that Morgan and Lynch have been working with the organization for three years, “LeadStar has been instrumental in helping us become an organization of leaders. We know this is the kind of leadership businesses in Southwest Michigan need now and in the future so we’re glad that while Angie and Courtney are here to work with Michigan Works’ staff they’ll be able to share their message with emerging leaders from our JAG classes.”
JAG is a component of YouthWorks!, a comprehensive, tri-county effort to prepare young people for the workplace. JAG classes are offered during regular school hours at Benton Harbor, Coloma, Covert, Cassopolis, and Niles high schools. It is also offered at the Michigan Works! Bridge Academy and in Benton Harbor’s Fairplain Middle School.
