Michigan Works! Board Member Tapped for Governor’s Talent Investment Board

December 2, 2011, Benton Harbor, Michigan – Arnold Redsicker, vice chairman of the Michigan Works! Workforce Development Board, has been named to the Governor’s Talent Investment Board.  The 47-person body made up of the Governor, legislative representatives, department directors, and business leaders, will advise the Governor on talent development throughout the state and assist with compliance to the federal Workforce Investment Act.

”I look forward to applying some of the successful processes we’ve implemented in Southwest Michigan, on the State level,” Redsicker said.  “The Workforce System, if properly focused on the job creators, and organized as a business and not a government entity, can and should be an asset to the community, and a tool for economic development.”

Redsicker, who lives in Lawrence, is director of business development-torsional products/ROSTA product manager at Lovejoy-Inc in South Haven. He has served on the Michigan Works board for 16 years, nine of which he led as chairman. During his tenure, Michigan Works has doubled its budget and added dozens of services for jobseekers, youth, and employers.

In addition to his local leadership, Redsicker has been an advocate for the national workforce development system and has traveled throughout the country to give presentations to a variety of stakeholders including government, educators, economic developers and other workforce organizations.

Michigan Works executive director Todd Gustafson says he’s glad that Redsicker’s efforts have been recognized at the state level, “Governor Snyder has selected an influential and knowledgeable cross section of leaders from around the state to serve on the board, and Arnie fits in perfectly.   His leadership and experience on the recognition of employers as our customer will help move the state forward.”

Redsicker was named the business person of the year by the South Haven Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and he received the Ralph Loeschner Outstanding Service Award from the Michigan Works Association in 2010.  He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ithaca College.
